The Department of Archaeology & Museums (DOAM) is a federal government entity responsible for protecting, preserving, and promoting Pakistan’s cultural heritage, including archaeological sites, monuments, and antiquities under the Antiquities Act 1975. Established post-1947 as a successor to the Archaeological Survey of India (founded 1860), it conducts excavations, research, and museum operations like the National Museum in Karachi to boost tourism and public awareness. DOAM collaborates internationally for heritage conservation and exhibits artifacts from the Stone Age to modern times.
